Meet the Governor, Joyce Combs

Joyce is a Human Resource Manager at General Motors in Defiance, Ohio where she leads the hiring for salaried professionals for the plant.  She has been a Zontian since 2003 and has held several leadership positions including Lt. Governor (2014-2016), Area Director (2010-2012), Advocacy Chair (2008-2010), and Club President (2006-2008).  Joyce has also been a leader for other community organizations, including the Defiance Chamber of Commerce and the YMCA.  Joyce enjoys traveling with her husband Paul, spending time with their daughters and grandchildren, reading, sewing, gardening and exercise.

She believes that while Zonta enables members to engage in volunteering for community projects, it also provides the opportunity to network and teach leadership skills needed professionally.  As in any business or organization, Zonta’s greatest resource is its members.  Joyce believes that Zontians are truly amazing leaders providing service for their local community and globally.

During the 2016-2018 biennium, Joyce will focus on retention of current members and increasing membership through engagement with the community, growing awareness of our international projects in support of the Zonta International Foundation, and promoting the successful volunteerism projects of the clubs in District 5.  Engaging women by ‘Teach, Coach and Recognize’ is her theme for the biennium.  Joyce wants to increase involvement of millennium members at the district and club leadership levels.
